A Second Chance (contemporary romance)

Chapter three

********
ONE YEAR LATER

Emilia stepped out of her car with an air of authority and confidence around her. She walked into the resturant where she would be meeting her client and took a seat facing the door. She was about fifteen minutes early just like she wanted. She believed that coming to a meeting before the other person gave you an edge over them. After some minutes, her client walked in. Ignoring his flirty smile, she stretched out her hand for a formal handshake. Then she delved right to the topic of discussion. As soon as it ended she stood up and hurried out.

This was how it had been since the incident. She had lost the soft side of her and related with client's as such, especially male clients. To them she was an ice lady and she preferred it that way. When she got to the office her manager gave her updates on a writing seminar she was to attend in two weeks. At first she didnt want to go but her manager felt she needed it ease off steam. Since she hardly refused him anything, she decided to attend.

Afterall what's the harm in going....she thought as she listened to him.

********
Two weeks had passed and Emilia was already at the airport about to board a flight to the venue of the seminar which was supposed to be for the duration of one month. She almost saw it as a vacation. Upon her arrival, she was shown to a hotel room to settle down and prepare herself.

On the first day of the seminar, they were given an outline of events to take place at the seminar. The first week will focus on theory were the would be thought advanced topics in writing...the next two weeks were the practical period while the last week was the evaluation week.

As the last day of the week drew nigh, Emilia felt thoroughly bored. The only thing that kept her going was that she got to write at her spare time. She hoped the practical week would be better. At the end of fridays lecture, she grabbed her keys and headed to a nearby resturant..the cost of food at the hotel was outrageous and even though she had the money, she was'nt ready to spend it on such things. She ordered her usual meal and settled down to eat only for someone to invade her personal space.

"excuse me?" a deep voice addressed her

"yes" she answered coldly

"am sorry to disturb you, but is this seat taken?" he pointed at the seat opposite her "all other seats here are already occupied" he continued

"its not taken" she continued eating not bothering to engage in a conversation with him.

After a moment she felt a pair of eyes on her, looking up she did a double take... she hadnt really looked at the man opposite her all this while... looking down quickly she continued eating as several thoughts raced through her mind...

why did he have to be so handsome...? why was she even thinking about how handsome he was...? She was supposed to be an ice lady...

She shook her head, she couldn't get soft again, not now, not ever...

She reasoned within herself as she ate.
